God Knows When

In our colloquial conversations we hardly miss to talk about “when”. When I finally get my own place, when I buy a car, when I get that diploma, when I get capital, when I get an opportunity to speak, when I get married, when I meet the president……. When, when, when.

There’s a lot of uncertainty, doubt, helplessness and ambiguity surrounding this word when

Sometimes the rain is hitting so hard, the blizzard is wild and the traffic is heavy that all you can do is sit there quietly and think to yourself, “when I get home….” The truth however, is you have no idea how long it will take you to get home. It could take twenty minutes; it could take two hours.

When depicts a scenario in life where we have no full access to all the information concerning the when, concerning the time to which what we hope for will happen.

Psalms 126:1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, We were like them that dream.

When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion is a statement that changes when from a viewpoint of uncertainty to a place of conviction. Like kids on the back seat of their parent’s car wondering “are we there yet”, conviction is the persuasion that says I don’t know how long it will take, I don’t know how it will happen, I don’t know the time it will happen but I know who sits on the driver’s seat and I know I will get there somehow.

It will come to pass either way because God is an omniscient God, He has the when. And whether He chooses to share that with you or not it doesn’t matter. It is just comforting to say God knows when, especially when you don’t.

Lamentations 3:24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

Your life is not chaotic; your life is not a predicament and it doesn’t revolve on the wheels of improbability. Nothing in God’s kingdom happens arbitrarily, everything is on schedule. He is not living a day at a time, He is not trying to figure out how your life should be as days unfold.

Ours is a God who says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 [NIV]

God has a when, He has a clock for each and every one of His children. It is no wonder that Solomon says in Ecclesiastes, that for everything there is a season and a time for every activity under the sun.

So I’m right where I’m supposed to be, when I’m supposed to be, going through what I’m supposed to be going through, learning what I’m supposed to be learning, doing what I’m supposed to be doing, with the people that I am with all for such a time as this because the seasons of life are in God’s very hands and He knows when.
