Friday nights were for fish and fries, it had become their custom but this particular Friday was different. He missed his girlfriend and life was never the same without her. In as much as he was the one who used to cook the fish while the girlfriend made the fries, the fish was never tastier without her being around. It was as though her presence alone was a secret ingredient.
He sat on the couch to eat his meal in silence the only light in the room coming from the muted TV. He remembered how they would hold hands to say grace. The memory of how she would say “Father we thank you for the gift of one another” brought a smile to his face. “Oh men, I need help” he sighed insentiently.
See, God designed life in such a way that we be needing help. Before Adam knew he needed help, God saw the need and created a helper for him. When Jesus was about to ascend to heaven, He said he will not leave us like orphans but promised to ask the Father to send us a helper, the Holy Spirit. Life was meant to be lived in a way that we need one another, that we be a blessing to one another, God doesn’t drop money from the skies when His children need it, He uses His people to bless His people.
Whether we know it or not, we need help traversing through this walk of life, it is unfortunate that human beings can be callous sometimes. Loyalty has become such a rare commodity; unfortunately, betrayal has become a way of life. We have quickly become a “God for us all, every man for himself” society and as one man of God says, even the church has become known for wounding its own soldiers. It is no wonder that David in Psalms 121:1 asks one of life's greatest question,” Where does my help come from?”
7“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am on my way, someone else goes in before me.”
Life is not always going to be easy and the bad news is, people will not always be available to help. Well, don’t blame them, they’re just being human and the world owes you nothing. Like the invalid man in the scriptures above, sometimes looking to people so much will cause you to miss out on Jesus. The catastrophe of life is when the helper Himself is asking “can I help?” but you miss out because you are blaming people who didn’t help you. Listen, there’s beauty in being in need because help is available, God is our ever-present help in time of need.
There’s no denying that the struggle is real but so is God. When there’s no one to help, when there’s no one to listen, no one to empathize, no one to give you another shot in life, call on God. He will help you. When you feeling chocked by the issues of life or drowning in the sorrows of life, there’s an ‘F1 button on the keyboard of life’ that never disappoints, His name is Jehovah. Call on His name because
Child of God, He will help you
